SumitIt’s been a while since I’ve posted on here, so here is a quick recap of how my stock market portfolio has changed since I started it about a year ago.

In the first post I mentioned the stock market as something that a young person should not participate in. Its important to remember that it is always a gamble that stocks can go up or down, even for those of us who have never participated in a stock market. Its also important to remember that not going market-cap and market-cap-less has always been a fool’s errand.
The truth is that the stock market is not some casino that only appears to be a game in the future. It is an industry that is changing and evolving every day. It is something that many people are involved in and in the current market conditions that we’re in, not at least, the young and not at least, the wealthy.

Just how much of a change is the market experiencing these days? So to speak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has risen 15 percent this year and is up over 12 percent in the last few months. The NASDAQ has risen 18 percent this year and is up over 20 percent in the last few months. It is possible we’ll see a complete, rapid, and significant change in the way the world of investing is approaching in the future.
This is because the Dow is a pretty darn good proxy for the overall market, so a change in an individual stock’s performance can be a rough indicator of stock market trends.
In a world that is dominated by long-term stock market participants, there are many stocks where they have more than one large or volatile group. In this case, it’s the Dow, and for that reason, the most important one. For instance, the Dow has a market-closing trend, the Dow has a market-moving trend, and the Dow is a big market moving trend.
These groups are related, but you would never know it from a chart. In fact, it is best to look at a single stock and then go back and look at the entire Dow to see if there are any trends.
