You may have already thought about what you want to do down the road, but it’s important to know that there are other options. If you are like most of us, you have a list of things you want to get done, but you don’t know how to get started.
Instead of looking at your list of things you want to get done, you should look at your list of things you are doing now. Deferred items are items that you want to get done, but that it is likely you have a lot of going on until you actually get to them. Accrued items are items that you have going on, but you dont actually have anything going on until they are done.
We were all told not to think of deferred items as a bad thing. However, in our recent study, we found that it can actually be a good thing since we tend to get on a lot less procrastinating about things. This is because deferred items are more likely to actually get done.
People tend to be a bit less motivated to do things when they don’t think they can get around to it. Not to mention that when they do get around to it, they are more likely to actually complete it. We also found that people are more likely to do things on tasks that they have a deadline for.
As we mentioned in our discussion of deferred tasks, people who are in better states of mind tend to be more likely to finish things before they get started. This should be a rule of thumb, but it has been proven to be true in our study. When it comes to procrastinating, we have some evidence as well.
To put it bluntly, if you want to procrastinate your work, you have to do it with a deadline. Otherwise, it will just pile up. It’s just like anything else. If you get an unexpected email, or a letter in the mail, it can be hard to get the ball rolling. You have to prioritize and plan in order to get the work done before the next appointment.
The good news is that if you’re going to work for the people you’re trying to hire, you really have to get a manager. You need a manager who’s really hard to get but who’ll help you get the job done, and who’s smart enough to spend a lot of time on that task.
Deferred is not an easy word to use for this type of situation. It’s not always as obvious as the word “aged” and “young.” It’s not like the word “old” or “young” is a bad word you should use.
