I’ve written before about the fact that people are always looking for the “right” data to use when it comes to selecting a new car. The right data isn’t the data that they’re looking for, but the data that they can’t find in the available choices.
In many cases, we dont know what car to buy until we go to our local dealership and talk to the guy behind the counter. The dealership is your best opportunity to see your car being sold. Some dealers are really nice and they offer all kinds of services and perks like free car inspections and free car wash, but we don’t want to be the only customer to have to wait three hours just to get in. So we want to find a dealership that is friendly, professional, and just plain nice.

The best in the industry are the “big players” like BMW, Mercedes, and Tesla. In fact, I’ve seen some of the worst service from dealerships.

They also offer a bunch of free reports that include service and crash history data, as well as crash and service history for each model. As it turns out, the data provided by the dealerships is pretty spot on, but when you consider that the dealerships have been selling these vehicles for years, you can see this data as just another set of numbers without much credibility.
