SumitTo be honest, I don’t know how to begin to articulate the feeling I get whenever I hear the word “nostro latino.” It is an overwhelming feeling, and I can’t remember the last time I felt this way.
The reason is that I have to feel like I have no more sense and can’t imagine what to do with it.
Nostro latino is basically Latin for “old soul.” It’s a phrase that was coined by the late Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges, who used it in his famous short story “The Book of Imaginary Beings.” The concept is that a person with no previous life experience, who is generally not aware of it, might feel like they’re living the life of a “super-human.
Not much to say about that. Nostro latin is a phrase that seems to have caught on in the wake of Borges’ work, and it’s not as crazy as that sounds. You can see it if you look at the Google trends for the phrase.
It’s hard to say if the popularity of the phrase is a direct result of Borges work, or if it’s just an artifact of the times. However, the phrase is a pretty apt description of a person who has no experience of their past lives. It’s not even about super-human powers. I guess if you’re having a conversation with someone who hasn’t had more than two or three life experiences this is an appropriate way to describe them.
While it’s easy to brush off as just that simple, the reason so many people are searching for the phrase is because the phrase is pretty darn accurate. The question is, how can someone who has no idea what their past lives are doing not be able to describe them? The answer is, by using the phrase itself. When you use it to describe a person, you have to describe the person.
If you want to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, you can describe someone as being a very nice person.
So how does it work? Someone is a nice person and they’re described as such, but the description is the same as they are.
The problem is that when we use the phrase nostro latino, we don’t have to be as specific as we probably should. The Latin word for nose is nostro and the latin word for nose is latino. So we can’t call someone nostro latino. But why would we want to? Because it is a description of someone as a very nice person.
I think it’s because we only use it for people we know and like. And some people like to be nice, but not everyone is nice, and even if they were, they dont describe themselves that way. We’re talking about someone who is described as a really nice person, and that is not something that we would want to describe ourselves using.
