The idea of a double net lease can be a little confusing if we don’t know what we’re talking about. The concept is pretty simple. Basically, a tenant pays a monthly rent and then you actually use the home as a guest house. In other words, the tenant is the owner of the lease, but you’re the tenant. But if you have a different name at home, you do have to pay a different set of fees.
The idea of a double net lease isn’t exactly new. But so far its only been used in the context of a rental property, and it has several problems. First, there’s the risk that if the tenant has a different name (and a different address) at home, they run afoul of the law. A landlord can technically be said to be the owner of a double net lease if they are a tenant of another entity at the same address.
You can make it work by saying that the tenant is your “other entity,” but that is not the easiest thing to do. You have to explain to everyone that you’ll have a different name than your current one and that you’re renting to someone else. That alone is enough to make for a bad deal for landlords, as they get to charge you a whole separate rate for you to have their name as your new name.
Actually I think this is a good deal for landlords. If you can get your name as your new name, then your name is one of the most memorable things youll have on your record. Your record will be something that will stick. Your name, in a way, will be the only thing you will have on your record.
The idea of having a “real” name is one of those things that I think a lot of people overlook. When you rent a house, you get to choose who you rent it for. If you are renting to yourself, the landlord can’t legally know who you are. You can choose the names you like. You can choose the names you want. You can even rent your house to someone else.
